My blog is about intentional and mindful weight loss. No matter what size you are or how fit you are, I believe you can lose the weight healthily and safely.
I do not advocate for Health at Every Size (HAES).
But I definitely do have issues with dieting culture, specifically the following:
- counting calories (I believe in using this as a framework for your weight loss, and not to obsess over this and make this a do or die thing. Why I still believe in counting is this: most people don’t know how much they’re overeating. So by counting, they can see what a normal portion is and how far they need to cut back)
- weight loss meal deliveries like Nutrisystem (in order to make your weight loss sustainable, you need to eat food that you like and that you can make regularly)
- unsustainable diets (the watermelon diet, the cucumber diet, etc.)
I am working to become a better person both mentally and physically, all while working to accept myself as I am right now (still working on this!).
While I do believe in mindful eating and having a better relationship with food (which I think is something that everyone should strive for), I do not believe in eating whatever you want. You have to instead eat what best serves you and your goals.
These are not my words (contact me if you know who said them), but I believe this quote sums up my philosophy the best:
“I support body positivity for every BODY, but I will NEVER use body positivity as an excuse for why I’m not working on my health. I’ll never be content with multiple health risks that obesity brings. I’ll always work on myself…no matter how long it takes.” – Unknown
